how it works

...here's the rundown.

Upper Valley Cheer is designed to be fun, structured, and easy for families to follow. Below is a step-by-step look at how our season runs.

Step 1: Register Your Athlete

Registration opens in the spring and is completed entirely online.

What to expect:

- Choose your athlete’s grade-based team

- Secure your spot (teams can fill quickly)

- Receive a welcome email with next steps

Registration opens March 1st and closes June 14th

Step 2: Season Timeline

Our season runs throughout the summer and into early fall.

Season Overview:

- Practices: June 1 – August 21

- Games: Late August – Mid October (almost always on Saturdays)

- Showtime Event: August (exact date shared before season)

Step 3: Practices

Practices are held twice per week and are 1 hour and 15 minutes long.

Each practice includes:

- Warm-up & stretching

- Jumps and cheer technique (they will learn at least 3 jumps)

- Cheers & sidelines (they will learn 2 sideline dances & 20 cheers)

- Stunting (they will learn 5 different stunts)

- Halftime routine work

Step 4: Coaches & Team Structure

Each team is led by: 1–2 Head Coaches and 1 Parent Coach

Head Coaches focus on:

- Teaching cheers, jumps, stunts, and halftime routines

- Skill progression and safety

- Leading practices and games

Parent Coaches assist with:

- Attendance and warming the team up each practice

- Communication through the Band App

- Supporting athletes during practices and games

This structure keeps practices organized while ensuring every athlete is supported.

Step 5: Communication

We use the Band App for all team communication.

Families can expect:

- Practice reminders

- Videos of cheers and routines

- Game day details

- Coach announcements

This keeps everything in one place and reduces missed messages.

Step 6: Showtime Event

Showtime is our end-of-summer celebration where all teams perform in front of friends and family.

What to expect:

- A fun tailgate atmosphere: Food trucks, vendors, and activities

- Teams perform halftimes and sidelines on the field

Held at Thunder Ridge High School
August (date announced in advance)

This event is a highlight of the season and a chance for athletes to shine.

Step 7: Football Games

Games typically begin in late August and are held once per week, usually on Saturdays.

At games, athletes will:

- Perform cheers, jumps, stunts, and sidelines

- Perform a halftime routine on the field

- Practice leadership through rotating team captains

Halftime snacks are parent-led, and the children of those parents serve as captains for that game.

Step 8: Uniforms & What to Wear

Uniform items are ordered through our website.

Practice attire: Hair pulled back, No jewelry, Athletic shoes

Uniform order deadlines are shared after registration to ensure items arrive in time for Showtime.

Step 9: Our Focus

Upper Valley Cheer is non-competitive and focuses on:

- Teamwork, Confidence-building, Leadership, Fitness, Friendship, and having fun in a positive environment

Every athlete is encouraged, included, and supported — no experience required.
